The sixty-piece China Broadcasting Film Symphony Orchestra performs with special guest soloists and choir from Ottawa local. Since its first tour abroad in 1992, the orchestra has performed in more than 40 countries on five continents, worked closely with renowned conductors, composers, dancers and performers. Whether at home or on tour, their concerts are always highly praised. In recent years the orchestra created innovatively a number of audience favorite big screen audio-visual film concerts, light concerts and other forms of concerts.
“Creating such a concert wasn’t an easy task,” says Conductor PANG Ka Pang. “Those legendary masterpieces are the best of the best works of film soundtrack masters, and are too familiar to western movie and music fans.” he explains, “In translating the score to a live performance, including the mix and instrumentation, we want to express the charm of these pieces, but also love to exhibit the special characteristics of our orchestra. Therefore we decide to break that down into four areas: legendary connotation, folk fascination, and Chinese and Western fusion.”
“Harnessed together, film and live music become a theatrical event. You cannot escape that you are experiencing musicians performing the musical score while you are engaged in the storytelling of the film.” A super large LED screen is shipped and constructed on the stage to emphasize the unique of visual effect. “If I am not mistaken, we only have seen only 4 shows ever using such large LED screens.” A technician guy of the venue told us. “We’ll ‘listen’ the movie and ‘watch’ the music. That’s something certainly I look forward to seeing.”
Centrepointe Theatres will be a packed house on Wednesday night, which for China Broadcasting Film Symphony Orchestra feels like testimony of their larger cultural mission and one-year journey to put it all together.
